Alicia Johal is a curriculum specialist and a fourth year teacher in the Sweetwater Union High School District. She teaches 8th grade integrated science, and electives in biotechnology and marine biology. Alicia is an Apple Foundations Trainer and Leading Edge Certified Professional Learning Leader and works to provide valuable workshops for her colleagues. She completed her undergraduate coursework at the University of California San Diego, studying Biology. In 2013, she completed her general sciences teaching credential and Master of Education in Teaching Leadership.
Alicia is passionate about problem and project based learning to create meaningful connections for her students in the classroom. She works hard to create hands on lessons to appeal to all learners, while heightening their creativity within technology. Her goal as a teacher is to inspire and innovate students, while improving critical thinking skills. She has spent a significant amount of time studying curriculum for Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards and is excited to further her professional development by using literacy, technology, and STEM strategies in the classroom.
